On January 4, 2025, Danish police investigated the sightings of approximately 20 drones over the port city of Koge, southwest of Copenhagen. The drones were seen on a Friday night by eyewitnesses, but the origins, purpose, and operators remain unclear. Authorities notified Denmark’s PET domestic intelligence service and have not issued any permits for drone flights in the area. These incidents follow a pattern of similar drone sightings over power stations and airports across Scandinavia and nearby regions, including recent unexplained drone activity over US military bases and airspaces in the US, UK, and Germany. The events come amid heightened concerns about potential Russian hybrid war tactics, especially after prior sabotage incidents on undersea infrastructure in the Baltic Sea. NATO has simultaneously announced increased military presence in the Baltic Sea as a precaution.
