Latvia's State Security Service monitors pro-Kremlin anti-Baltic conference speakers in Moscow

A pseudo-scientific conference titled ‘Russian ethnocide in the Baltic States’ was held on February 12, 2025, in Moscow, organized by the Institute of CIS countries and featuring pro-Kremlin speakers who fled Latvia and face criminal charges there. Speakers including former MEP Andrejs Mamikins and activist Vadims Aleksejevs called for the liquidation of the Baltic States and suppression of their native languages, comparing Baltic language rights to Native American reservations. Latvian authorities see this event as a Russian information influence campaign to destabilize Latvian society and undermine NATO credibility. Latvia’s State Security Service is actively reviewing the statements and considering legal actions against participants.
