Fifty-eight drones were shot down as they approached the city of Moscow in the early hours of March 11, Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin claimed.
“Emergency services are working at the site of the fallen debris,” Sobyanin said.
Eleven drones were shot down over the Ramensky district on the outskirts of Moscow, the mayor claimed. Sobyanin attributed the attack to the Ukrainian military.
The Kyiv Independent could not verify Sobyanin’s claims, and Ukraine’s military has not yet commented on the attack.
“According to preliminary data, there is no damage or casualties at the site where the debris fell,” Sobyanin said.
Domodedovo and Zhukovsky airports in Moscow introduced temporary flight restrictions in response to the drone attack, Russia’s Federal Air Transport Agency (Rosaviatsiya) reported.
A residential building was hit in the city of Vidnoye, a suburb of Moscow, local officials claimed.
Drones were also shot down over Russia’s Ryazan Oblast and Tula Oblast, according to Russian officials.
Ukraine regularly strikes military and industrial targets deep within Russian territory.
