Russia recruits immigrants in Poland for spying and sabotage, new security threat emerges

On April 9, 2025, Poland’s Internal Security Agency (ABW) revealed that Russia has initiated recruitment efforts targeting immigrants within Poland for the purposes of spying and sabotage. This marks a new development in Russia’s hybrid warfare strategy aimed at undermining Polish security through vulnerable groups within society. The ABW indicated this recruitment effort exploits immigrants who might be more susceptible to coercion or incentives, allowing Russia to establish covert intelligence and sabotage networks inside the country. The Polish government is responding by heightening vigilance and strengthening counterintelligence measures to address this evolving threat amid ongoing geopolitical tensions.
