On Friday, April 25, at about 10:40 Moscow time, an explosion occurred near one of the residential buildings in Balashikha, Moscow Region. The fire engulfed a Volkswagen parked nearby at the moment when 58-year-old Deputy Chief of the Main Operations Directorate of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Russia, Lieutenant General Yaroslav Moskalik, was leaving the building.
The high-ranking military officer was thrown back against the door by the blast wave. He received injuries incompatible with life.
Preliminary, the explosion was caused by the detonation of an explosive device planted in the car. The Investigative Committee of Russia has already opened a criminal case under two criminal articles - 105 (“Murder”) and 222.1 (“Illegal trafficking of explosives”) of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.
