The Latvian State Security Service (VDD) announced on June 9, 2025, that it has started criminal proceedings against Aleksejs Rošlikovs, a member of the Saeima, for suspicion of aiding the aggressor state Russia in hostile actions directed against Latvia and inciting national hatred and discord. This action follows an evaluation of Rošlikovs' statements made during a Saeima session on June 5 and other recent activities, which the VDD determined match criminal offenses under Articles 81.1 and 78 of the Criminal Law concerning aiding a foreign state and incitement of national hatred. The VDD also previously held preventive talks with the leader of the political party ‘Stabilitātei!’ to avoid criminally punishable acts. The service clarified that no individual is considered guilty until legally established. The criminal process is ongoing, with details preparing for further investigations.
