Ukraine says it disabled a high-value Russian radar in occupied Crimea and released video of the strike, as Kyiv’s intelligence service frames the operation as part of the peninsula’s ongoing “demilitarization.”
Overnight on August 28, special operations units from Ukraine’s Defense Intelligence (GUR) targeted a 91N6E radar, a key component of Russia’s S-400 “Triumf” air defense system, in territory Russia occupies in Crimea, the agency said. The operation was carried out by the Department of Active Operations of GUR and is part of continued efforts to degrade Russian capabilities on the peninsula, according to the agency’s press service.
GUR said the precision strike fully disabled the site, depriving Russian forces in the area of surveillance and fire-adjustment capabilities. The radar — once promoted by the Kremlin as an “invulnerable element” of its defense — has been “blinded,” the agency added.
Earlier, Ukrainian forces launched drone attacks on the Russian city of Oryol, striking military and strategic targets, with footage of impacts and aftermath circulating on social media.
