Since early summer, U.S. authorities have expelled around 100 Russian citizens, including some who feared political persecution by the Kremlin.

The United States has deported roughly 100 citizens of the Russian Federation who fled between 2022 and 2025 from what the Kremlin calls its “special military operation” — the war against Ukraine launched by Vladimir Putin - The Moscow Times reported, citing Dmitry Valuyev, head of Russian America for Democracy in Russia

About 40 Russians were deported in June and up to 60 in August, according to the report. Deportees were first flown to Cairo and then on to Moscow.

Those sent back included people who lost their political asylum cases, as well as individuals who chose to return to Russia before their cases were decided.

Among those deported to Russia were people who said they feared political persecution by Putin’s regime.

The group also included a former Russian servicemember who went AWOL during the war and fled to the United States but lost his asylum case.
