A large forest fire near Gelendzhik, triggered by the crash of a Ukrainian drone, has been extinguished.
Krasnodar region Governor Veniamin Kondratyev announced the news Sunday, August 31, on his Telegram channel.
He said more than 500 people fought the blaze over four days, deploying about 100 pieces of equipment, including an Il-76 aircraft and two Mi-8 helicopters.
The fire broke out near the village of Krinitsa and scorched 42 hectares. Krinitsa is about 10 kilometers from Cape Idokopas, where, according to an investigation by the Anti-Corruption Foundation (FBK), the so-called “palace” of Russian President Vladimir Putin is located.
In a two-hour investigative film, FBK claimed that at least 100 billion rubles were spent to build “Putin’s palace.”
According to the foundation, the 17,691-square-meter residence is the largest private home in Russia.
The grounds reportedly include an ice arena, a church, a greenhouse, a teahouse, and a tunnel with a sea view.
FBK said a no-fly zone is in place over the main building and access to adjacent waters is restricted. Putin has said that neither he nor his relatives have ever owned the property described in the investigation.
