Russia’s military launched 142 attack drones — Shahed-type and various decoy UAVs - from Kursk, Millerovo in the Rostov region, Primorsko-Akhtarsk in Krasnodar Krai, and Cape Chauda in Russian-annexed Crimea.

Ukrainian units shot down or suppressed 126 of the drones over the north, south and east of the country, Ukraine’s Air Force said Sunday, August 31.

Sixteen drones struck 10 sites, and debris fell in six other locations, according to the statement.

One axis of the Russian attack was the Odesa region.

Chornomorsk in Odesa district and surrounding areas were hardest hit, regional governor Oleh Kiper said.

The strike damaged energy infrastructure.

“More than 29,000 customers are currently without power. Restoration is already underway. Critical infrastructure is operating on generators,” he wrote on Telegram.

Private homes and administrative buildings were damaged, and one person was injured.

Energy company DTEK said Russia, which continues its war against Ukraine, attacked four of its facilities in the Odesa region.

“As soon as our crews get clearance from the military and emergency services, they will begin inspections and emergency repairs,” the company said on Telegram

Meanwhile, Russia’s Defense Ministry claimed the strike targeted “port infrastructure used in the interests of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.”

Ukraine’s State Emergency Service reported Russian shelling of a residential area in Sumy region.

A private home caught fire in the Putyvl community.

“Responding firefighters began extinguishing the blaze and checking the area but had to temporarily pause due to the threat of another strike. Despite this, they managed to eliminate all hotspots,” the service said.
