Overnight on September 5, Ukrainian drones again targeted the Energia plant in Yelets, Lipetsk region, which manufactures components for missiles.
Residents reported hearing several explosions and then seeing a fire in the area of the plant, the channels said. Video of the strike was posted by the Exilenova+ Telegram channel.
Lipetsk regional governor Igor Artamonov said on his Telegram channel there was an air attack overnight. At 00:27 local time, he announced an air-raid alert across the region; it was lifted at 6:18 a.m.
This is not the first reported strike on the Energia facility this year. The plant plays a significant role for Russia’s military industry, producing components for cruise and ballistic missiles, as well as for drones — including parts for the Iskander ballistic system and the Kinzhal missile — and batteries for glide-bomb planning and correction modules.
Uncrewed aerial vehicles also hit the Energia plant in May and July, sparking fires on both occasions. The facility temporarily halted operations after those strikes, according to the reports.
Earlier, drones destroyed several radar stations in Russia’s Rostov region.
