Ukrainian forces retake positions north of Kupyansk

2 minutes to read

Ukrainian forces have retaken several previously lost positions north of the city of Kupyansk, according to Ukrainian military analyst Kostyantyn Mashovets. He said the gains were made around the “UkrAvtoGaz” and “TatNeft” gas stations.

Analysts at the Institute for the Study of War have examined the latest developments in and around Kupyansk.

Russian troops from the 6th Combined Arms Army are trying to hold their lines in the same area on the northern edge of the city, Mashovets said. At the same time, Russian military bloggers claim Moscow’s forces have advanced west of Myrove.

Fighting on September 3 and 4 flared around Kupyansk, Stepova Novoselivka, Kondrashivka and Sobolivka. Mashovets also said Ukrainian troops clashed with Russian forces not only in the north but on the western outskirts of Kupyansk.

Andriy Kanashkevych, head of the Kupyansk City Military Administration, said volunteers are struggling to evacuate residents due to constant strikes.

A Ukrainian soldier fighting on the Kupyansk axis said Russian forces are using thermal cloaks at night, moving alone or in pairs to approach Ukrainian positions. According to the soldier, Russian units have shifted to thermal cloaks to avoid using motorcycles in this sector, which are frequently hit by Ukrainian drones.

Mashovets said elements of Russia’s 69th Motorized Rifle Division are operating near Dvorichanskyi National Nature Park. Units of the 27th Motorized Rifle Brigade and the 68th Motorized Rifle Division are fighting near Kondrashivka, the 352nd Motorized Rifle Regiment is active around Stepova Novoselivka, and drone operators from the 16th GRU brigade are striking Ukrainian positions near Smorodynka.
