Uzbekistan’s President held a substantive conversation with his American counterpart, Donald Trump, agreeing to closer cooperation.

Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and US President Donald Trump held a phone call to discuss expanding strategic cooperation between the two countries, the Uzbek president’s press service said.

The discussion focused on practical steps to advance US-Uzbek ties. The leaders stressed the importance of boosting bilateral trade and promoting new joint projects. According to Tashkent, the pipeline of future initiatives includes civil aviation, energy, electrical engineering, agriculture, digital technologies, the extraction and processing of critical minerals, as well as education and innovation.

Security cooperation was singled out, including the fight against terrorism, extremism and illegal migration. Mirziyoyev invited Trump to pay an official visit to Uzbekistan, underscoring Tashkent’s readiness to further strengthen dialogue.

The presidents also discussed regional policy, paying special attention to the “C5+1” format that brings together the United States and Central Asian nations. Analysts say Washington is seeking to increase its presence in the region as Russia loses ground and influence.

Official data show bilateral trade is steadily growing: in 2024 it rose 15% to $882 million. Economists note the United States is becoming an increasingly important partner for Uzbekistan, while dependence on Russian markets is diminishing.
