Ukrainian drones attacked the Russian resort city of Sochi overnight into Tuesday, according to Krasnodar Krai Governor Veniamin Kondratyev. Vladimir Putin was likely in the city at the time, the outlet “Agentstvo” reported.
One person was killed and about six buildings were damaged, officials said. Air raid sirens sounded three times during the night, and the airport was closed for more than 30 minutes. Russia’s Defense Ministry said two drones were shot down over Krasnodar Krai.
“At the time of the attack, Vladimir Putin may have been in Sochi. The day before, he joined an extraordinary BRICS meeting by video link from that city, according to the Kremlin website.
Hours earlier, an Il‑96‑300PU of the Rossiya Special Flight Detachment with tail number RA‑96024 arrived in Sochi, Flightradar24 data show. It’s the same aircraft the president used to fly to Alaska for a meeting with Donald Trump. According to Flightradar24, the presidential aircraft is still in Sochi,” the outlet reported.
“Agentstvo” noted that Putin’s Bocharov Ruchey residence is located in Sochi. He previously spent weeks there, but, as the outlet “Proekt” reported, he has largely stopped visiting since Ukrainian drones began reaching the city.
