Russia says it has no plans to strike Poland but stops short of denying drone incursion

Russia’s Defense Ministry denies having plans to hit targets on Polish territory.

The ministry proposed holding consultations with the Polish military. The statement comes amid a large-scale attack on Ukrainian defense‑industrial facilities.

The ministry said the maximum range of Russian drones that “allegedly” crossed into Poland is no more than 700 kilometers. It did not directly deny involvement in the reported drone incursion. “We are ready to hold consultations with Poland’s Ministry of Defense,” the statement said.

Separately, the ministry reported strikes on facilities in the Ivano-Frankivsk, Khmelnytskyi and Zhytomyr regions, as well as in Vinnytsia and Lviv.

According to Poland’s Interior Ministry, seven unmanned aerial vehicles and debris from a missile of unknown origin were found on Polish territory after the overnight raid.

Ministry representative Karolina Galęcka said search operations are ongoing and the number of objects discovered could increase. Polish citizens were urged not to touch any devices found and to notify emergency services.

Reports on how many drones violated Polish airspace vary: Rzeczpospolita cites 23 drones; a NATO source quoted by Reuters puts the figure at 6–10; and Prime Minister Donald Tusk said 19 drones entered, at least three of which were destroyed. The incident prompted an emergency government meeting and notification of NATO leadership. Lt. Col. Jacek Goryszewski noted that the recovered missile is not necessarily of Russian origin and may have been used to intercept drones.

NATO’s Article 4 has also been invoked—bringing the situation to the North Atlantic Council for consultations with allies.
