Kremlin warns of escalation over Ukraine’s plan to build Flamingo missile‑fuel plant in Denmark

Ukraine plans to produce fuel in Denmark for the country’s new long-range Flamingo missiles.

The Kremlin says construction in Denmark of a Ukrainian plant that will make fuel for long-range Flamingo missiles will lead to an “escalation” of the war in Ukraine, according to Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova, Russian media reported.

She said the Danish government’s decision to allow a Ukrainian military factory on its territory raises the risk of “escalation” in Ukraine and will lead to further “bloodshed.”

Zakharova called the Danish government’s move an “adventure,” claiming it confirms Copenhagen’s hostile stance toward Russia.

In early September 2025, it emerged that Ukrainian company Fire Point will soon begin producing fuel in Denmark for long-range Flamingo cruise missiles, moving its production out of Ukraine. Danish Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen announced the plan. The plant is reportedly set to be located near Skrydstrup Air Base in southern Denmark, home to Danish F-16 fighter jets.

Relocating Fire Point’s plant from Ukraine to Denmark would protect it from airstrikes by the Russian army.

Ukraine developed the Flamingo cruise missile in just nine months. In August, President Volodymyr Zelensky said the missile successfully passed tests. According to him, Flamingo can strike ground targets at distances up to 3,000 km. Unofficial information claims its top speed reaches 950 km/h and its weight is 1 ton. It is currently Ukraine’s longest-range missile. Zelensky said serial production of the Flamingo will begin in late 2025 or early 2026.
