Syrskyi: Ukrainian forces regaining control in Donetsk region

Ukraine’s Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi says the Ukrainian Armed Forces are restoring control over parts of the eastern Donetsk region, as troops hold off Russian advances.

Syrskyi made a working trip to the Pokrovsk and Dobropillia fronts, he said in a Telegram post on Friday, September 12. He visited a command post of one of the army corps, meeting commanders to review the operational situation and hear proposals for further actions “to defeat the enemy grouping.”

He said the search continues for effective ways to neutralize Russian marine units redeployed to sustain offensive operations near Dobropillya.

Syrskyi said he issued orders to ensure units are supplied with ammunition, drones and electronic warfare systems.

“Our soldiers are holding back the enemy’s pressure with honor and are restoring control over territory in Ukraine’s Donetsk region,” he said. Commanders, he added, must use available resources as efficiently as possible and safeguard personnel. “We work shoulder to shoulder to achieve our common goal.”

Earlier, Syrskyi said Ukrainian forces regained control of 58 square kilometers of territory in August and liberated several settlements from Russian occupation.
