Syrskyi dismisses commanders of two Ukrainian army corps after battlefield setbacks

2 minutes to read

Two Ukrainian Army corps commanders were dismissed about one to two weeks ago, Ukrainska Pravda reports, citing two anonymous sources in the Ukrainian Defense Forces.

According to the insiders, Syrskyi made the decisions after the loss of positions within the corps’ areas of responsibility.

Journalists noted that the 17th Army Corps led by Volodymyr Sylenko is positioned in Zaporizhzhia region, where the village of Kamianske and part of the village of Plavni on the bank of the Dnipro were recently lost. Maksym Kytuhin headed the 20th Army Corps, and within its sector Russian forces managed to push from Donetsk into Dnipropetrovsk region.

Ukrainska Pravda notes that the removal of Sylenko and Kytuhin are the first personnel changes since the Defense Forces shifted to a corps-based system.

As of publication, Ukraine’s General Staff and Syrskyi had not commented on Ukrainska Pravda’s report about the dismissals.

Syrskyi announced the implementation of a corps system in the Armed Forces in February 2025.

The first of the corps under the reform was created in March on the basis of the 3rd Separate Assault Brigade.

Alina Mykhailova, head of the medical service “ULF” of the 108th Separate Assault Battalion “Da Vinci Wolves” within the 59th Separate Motorized Brigade, on September 15 warned of a threat to the city of Dnipro.

She said some settlements in the Dnipropetrovsk region are already inaccessible.
