A Ukrainian UAV manufacturer develops an autonomous interceptor drone for air defense

Ukrainian company Amazing Drones is developing a fully automated anti-drone air-defense system to intercept enemy UAVs.

Taking down UAVs with interceptor drones typically demands specialized piloting skills. A low-cost interceptor that can operate autonomously would ease the burden on human operators, company director and founder Maksim Klimenko told UNIAN.

“Wars of the future are drone wars. That’s why we’re working on autonomous interceptor drones,” he said.

The company has already built a craft that can take off, climb, locate a target, and close in at speeds of up to 300 kilometers per hour, enabled by Amazing Drones’ proprietary software and radar integration.

Developers have also created a targeting and operator-assist system that shows precisely where in the sky an enemy UAV is. The team is now working on software and ground stations for the interceptor.

According to Klimenko, the project needs additional funding to wrap up quickly. The company is currently a nominee for several grants from Ukraine’s Brave1 defense cluster.

Earlier, Deputy Head of the President’s Office Pavel Palisa said Ukraine already has interceptor drones capable of taking on jet-propelled Shaheds.
