Starting late on September 22 and lasting into the early hours of September 23, Russia’s capital came under a drone attack from Ukraine, according to Russian officials. By midnight, Moscow authorities said 15 drones had been shot down.
In total over the evening, night and morning, 36 drones headed toward Moscow were destroyed, according to Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin.
Russia’s Defense Ministry said that overnight, air defenses downed 69 Ukrainian drones over the Belgorod, Bryansk, Kaluga, Kursk and Moscow regions, as well as the Rostov, Ryazan, Samara and Saratov regions and Crimea.
Residents of the Moscow region reported hearing explosions on social media. In the city of Reutov, debris from a drone falling onto a parking lot damaged four cars.
Air travel was affected. Sheremetyevo Airport temporarily halted operations, and more than 20 departures were delayed at Vnukovo Airport.
Belgorod region Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov asked residents to keep children at home and not send them to school due to increased drone activity.
