Ukrainian and U.S. delegations held talks on purchasing American weapons and launching joint drone programs, National Security and Defense Council Secretary Rustem Umerov said in a Facebook post on Tuesday, September 23.
He noted the meeting followed a discussion in New York with U.S. presidential special representative Gen. Keith Kellogg ahead of the UN General Assembly.
“The focus is weapons and security. We discussed agreements on purchasing American weapons and joint drone programs that will strengthen Ukraine’s defense capabilities. A separate topic was security guarantees and protecting Ukraine’s skies,” Umerov wrote.
He added that partnership with the United States is essential for reinforcing Ukraine’s air defense and expanding domestic weapons production.
“We thank the United States for its consistent support and President Donald Trump’s efforts aimed at ending the war and protecting the lives of Ukrainians,” the NSDC secretary said.
Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said he met with Kellogg and briefed the general on the frontline situation.
Zelensky arrived in the U.S. to attend the UN General Assembly in New York. He is scheduled to meet with U.S. President Donald Trump and hold talks with other world leaders.
