Germany’s Rheinmetall has secured a contract worth about €444 million to supply artillery ammunition, with deliveries set to begin in 2026.
The buyer is U.S.-based Global Military Products, and the 155 mm M107 shells with M4A2 propelling charges and 105 mm M1 shells are destined for an unnamed country in Eastern Europe, the company said on its website.
Of the total value, €170 million has already been booked as a pre-order, meaning a further €274 million in new orders has also been earmarked.
Shipments are scheduled to start in 2026 and conclude by June 2027.
Ukraine already uses 155 mm M107 shells as one of its standard munitions for 155 mm artillery, according to the defense outlet Militarnyi.
The 105 mm M1 rounds are intended for use with M119A3 105 mm howitzers supplied to Ukraine by the United States. The American M119 is a related system to Britain’s L119, though the British L118/L119 have compatibility with specific shell types and differing technical standards.
On August 27, Rheinmetall AG opened what it says is Europe’s largest munitions plant, located in Unterlüß near Hanover in northwestern Germany. Among other products, it will manufacture shells for Ukraine.
Rheinmetall also plans to build a munitions plant in Ukraine, where it operates a tank repair center. However, in March this year, CEO Armin Papperger reported delays in securing permits for new production facilities.
Separately, Rheinmetall showcased its new FV-014 loitering munition, a so-called “kamikaze” drone, at the DSEI defense exhibition in London.
