The head of the Russian administration in Nova Kakhovka, in Ukraine’s Kherson region, Vladimir Leontyev, was fatally wounded in a drone strike. On the morning of October 1, the region’s Russian-appointed governor, Vladimir Saldo, said the “mayor” had been hospitalized in serious condition, later adding that he died in the hospital.
Saldo said Leontyev was killed by a Ukrainian “Baba Yaga”-type drone. He described Leontyev as “one of the first supporters of United Russia in the region, who was our loyal comrade and ally.”
Russian state news agency TASS reported that around 8:20 a.m., a Ukrainian drone struck Nova Kakhovka, damaging a deputies’ building. Two elderly women were also injured, according to Saldo’s spokesman, Vladimir Vasilenko.
