Greece is preparing a major aid package for Kyiv, including dozens of heavy artillery systems and hundreds of thousands of munitions designed to significantly boost Ukraine’s firepower, Ef.Syn reports.
Under Greece’s Defense Ministry plan, 60 M110A2 203 mm self-propelled howitzers and roughly 150,000 shells for them will be routed to Ukraine via the Czech Republic. The shipment also includes thousands of 70 mm and 127 mm rockets (Zuni type).
The package is valued at more than €199 million. All the weapons have been formally classified in Greece as “not operationally necessary” (MEASE), meaning they are being drawn from stocks and written off as outdated for Greece’s own forces.
The M110A2 is powerful but aging: a single shell can weigh more than 100 kg, and with HERA rocket-assisted rounds it can reach ranges of up to 30 km.
The ammunition set includes various types of rounds: M106, M650 HERA, M404 ICM, and M509A1 DPICM. The latter contains dual-purpose submunitions, significantly increasing lethality against armored targets and fortified positions.
The final decision must be approved by the government commission KYSEA, chaired by Greece’s prime minister. Military officials insist the export will not weaken the country’s defenses; funds will be allocated to modernize and replenish arsenals.
