Ukraine’s armed forces are preparing new strikes on military and strategic targets inside Russia in response to Russian air attacks on Ukraine, National Security and Defense Council Secretary Rustem Umerov said on his Telegram channel.

Umerov said the Staff of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief, chaired by President Volodymyr Zelensky, discussed protecting Ukraine’s energy infrastructure ahead of the winter heating season. In response to Russian strikes on Ukrainian civilian infrastructure, Ukraine will target Russia’s logistics and fuel infrastructure, he said.

According to Umerov, Ukraine will scale up strikes on Russian logistics and fuel facilities to degrade the Russian military’s capabilities. He added that Kyiv plans new sanctions against companies and individuals supporting Russia’s defense industry.

Overnight on October 3, Russian forces carried out their most powerful combined air attack on Ukraine’s gas infrastructure since the start of the full-scale war, Ukrainian officials said. In one night, Naftogaz facilities in the Kharkiv and Poltava regions were hit with 35 cruise and ballistic missiles and 60 attack drones, causing damage, according to those officials. Zelensky said Ukrainian air defenses shot down about half of the 35 missiles.

Ukraine says its forces strike only military and strategic targets on Russian territory. Ukrainian officials accuse Russia of attacking cities and civilian infrastructure to intimidate the population.

Earlier, Ukrainian “Lyuti” drones attacked an oil refinery in Russia’s Orenburg region that supplies the Russian army.

Ukrainian UAVs also struck a military plant in Russia’s Perm region that produces explosives, according to the outlet.
