At least three people were killed in a rocket strike by Ukraine’s armed forces on the village of Maslova Pristan in the Shebekino district of Russia’s Belgorod region.

The preliminary casualties were reported by regional governor Vyacheslav Gladkov on Telegram on Wednesday morning, October 8. Later, the governor said 10 people were injured in the strike.

“Seven women were taken to medical facilities in Belgorod. Doctors assess one of them as being in serious condition. Three women were released for outpatient treatment after receiving the necessary care,” he wrote.

Gladkov said a “social facility” was partially destroyed in the attack. He did not specify which one. The Telegram channels “Pepel — Belgorod” and Shot said the village’s sports and fitness complex was hit. “The complex building was destroyed in the strike. Emergency crews and territorial defense fighters are working at the site, clearing the debris,” Pepel — Belgorod posted. “According to preliminary data, people may remain under the rubble.”

Citing eyewitnesses, Pepel — Belgorod said those killed in the Ukrainian strike were 25-year-old teacher Yevgeniya Kravchenko and two servicemen who were inside the sports complex.

Shot said all the victims were adults and that one of them was a young woman - a 25-year-old Russian language and literature teacher named Yevgeniya. The strike apparently hit as she was on her way to work at the village school located near the sports complex.

Maslova Pristan lies about 15 kilometers (9 miles) from Belgorod.

The regional capital regularly comes under Ukrainian aerial attacks. After one such strike on the city and surrounding areas on the evening of October 5, Gladkov said on his Telegram channel there was “significant damage to the power supply,” leaving nearly 40,000 residents without electricity. Authorities also reported five people injured, including a 10-year-old child and a 15-year-old.

According to The Moscow Times, on October 6 a missile strike hit the Luch power substation in Belgorod, killing two people.

Earlier, on September 28, a missile strike targeted the Belgorod combined heat and power plant (CHP), leading to widespread power outages and water disruptions in Belgorod and several surrounding communities, reporters said.
