Russian military bloggers have confirmed the use of Ukraine’s P-5 “Flamingo” cruise missiles against targets on Russian territory. According to their accounts, the strikes may have been part of a combined attack last week.
Posts appeared on the Telegram channels “Voevoda Speaks” and “Kirill Fedorov / War History Weapons” on October 9, the Militarnyi portal reported.
The bloggers did not specify how many missiles Ukraine launched or which targets were hit.
They published several photographs of missile debris found in a wooded area. They also claimed the munition was allegedly shot down during the attack by a Pantsir-S1 air defense system. The Russian milbloggers said they “took down the Flamingo,” adding the missile was flying at about 600 km/h at an altitude of 100 meters.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky earlier reported successful use of Ukraine’s “Flamingo” missiles against targets in the Russian Federation.
He said it was not a mass deployment of the new weapon, but that the first launches have produced visible results.
“Last week - I won’t say how many - we used our pair, Neptune and Flamingo. We’re simply saying there has been use, and there are the first tangible results from this weapon of ours,” Zelensky said.
On September 29, Ukrainian forces struck the Elektrodetal plant, which specializes in electronic warfare systems, with Neptune missiles.
Ukrainian military analysts reported that the plant’s main production workshop and boiler house were destroyed in the attack.
On September 23, there were also reports of a strike on the Belgorod Cutter Plant in Russia’s Belgorod region. Analysts from Militarnyi noted that the damage indicated the use of munitions with a powerful warhead of up to 1,180 kg, consistent with the parameters of the FP-5 “Flamingo” missile.
