Ukraine says Russia aims to widen Zvereve salient near Pokrovsk

The operational situation around the Pokrovsk–Myrnohrad agglomeration is beginning to stabilize, the press service of the 7th Corps of Ukraine’s Air Assault Forces said . Additional forces and assets are being brought in to minimize the impact of Russian infiltration. Attempts by Russian troops to advance along various sectors of the defensive line are being blocked. Units are working to find and destroy groups that managed to penetrate Ukrainian combat formations, and logistics for Pokrovsk’s defenders is being diversified.

“The situation south of Pokrovsk remains the most difficult. Enemy groups plan to expand the Zvereve salient. However, they are currently rotating forces in this sector due to losses. The enemy is trying to advance west of Pokrovsk and intends to reach the city’s northwestern outskirts. The nature of these actions indicates preparations to intensify the offensive south and southeast of Pokrovsk to gain a foothold in small settlements across the agglomeration. To execute this plan, the enemy continues to rely mainly on infiltration tactics, expanding the ‘gray zone.’ At the same time, tactical aviation has increased strikes on our rear positions,” the corps said.

Over the past month, several Russian units have shifted from south of the Pokrovsk-Myrnohrad area to the Novopavlivka axis. They were replaced by other combat-ready formations, including the 1487th Motor Rifle Regiment and the 86th and 87th Rifle Regiments.

Since the start of October, Pokrovsk’s defenders have “eliminated” nearly 300 Russian soldiers and wounded more than 150, according to the statement. Ukraine’s Defense Forces have also shot down or forced to land more than 1,100 drones of various types.

Earlier, it was reported that Russia’s military was ordered to storm Ukrainian positions on the Pokrovsk axis “at any cost”.
