Ukraine’s East Group of Forces said that units of Russia’s Armed Forces have not broken into Myrnohrad. It clarified that the Russians are operating in Pokrovsk, which led to confusion due to a spokesperson’s error.
A representative of the East Group of the Armed Forces of Ukraine misspoke on a national telethon when he said Russians had appeared in Myrnohrad, the Eastern Grouping of Forces said on its Facebook page . Command assured that the situation in the city is fully controlled by the Defense Forces.
The clarification about Myrnohrad appeared online around 11 a.m. on October 29. In the note, the East Group said the spokesperson who on October 28 reported a Russian breakthrough on the city’s outskirts had “misspoken.” He was referring to Pokrovsk, the statement said.
“The enemy is not in Myrnohrad. The situation in the city and its surroundings is fully controlled by the Defense Forces of Ukraine,” the command wrote.
On October 28, East Group spokesperson Hryhorii Shapoval, speaking live on the national telethon about the Pokrovsk sector, also mentioned Myrnohrad. He said Russian units had allegedly appeared on the city’s outskirts. Meanwhile, analysts from the DeepState project shared a map showing Russian positions 1.5–3 km from the edge of the city, though the gray zone has reached the outer boundary of the settlement.
Military analyst Bogdan Miroshnikov commented on the fighting in Myrnohrad, noting the city has been defended for 12 straight months, with Ukrainian troops repelling sustained Russian assaults. He also warned of Russian pressure from the north, from Rodynske, and from the east, from Novoekonomichne. He added that the battle for the Pokrovsk–Myrnohrad agglomeration would be fought not in the streets, but in the fields to the northwest.
On October 27, Ukrainska Pravda published an article about the possible loss of Pokrovsk and the current situation in Myrnohrad. It found logistics problems, as Russian drone operators are keeping ammunition supply routes under fire.
Earlier in October, Bild military analyst Julian Röpcke warned that a final battle for Pokrovsk was approaching. On October 29, DeepState analysts explained why the threat of losing Pokrovsk has emerged and what forces could still save the city.
