Following a recent attack on the Russian port of Novorossiysk by Ukrainian Neptune missiles, exports of crude oil and petroleum products there have been suspended.
Almost no large vessels remain in Novorossiysk port, noted volunteer and civic activist Serhii Sternenko. In a post on his Telegram channel, he shared satellite images that appear to confirm this.
Novorossiysk is a strategically important Russian port, Sternenko emphasized.
According to Forbes.ua, in October 2025, crude exports through Novorossiysk totaled 3.22 million tons (more than 760,000 barrels per day). From January to October 2025, such exports reached 24.7 million tons. As for petroleum products, 1.8 million tons were shipped through Novorossiysk last month alone, and 16.8 million tons over the first 10 months of this year.
Earlier, explosions were reported in Novorossiysk overnight on November 14. Videos posted online showed flashes in the port and the trails of air defense systems at work in the sky. Given the strength of the blasts, observers suggested a serious strike, although local authorities acknowledged only the βfalling of UAV debris.β
Subsequently, reports said Novorossiysk was hit by cruise missiles. Before the strike with Neptune missiles on the Russian city, up to seven S-400 surface-to-air missile launchers were located in the area. In addition, Andriy Kovalenko, head of Ukraineβs Center for Countering Disinformation under the National Security and Defense Council, said an oil terminal was struck.
