The situation in Pokrovsk, Donetsk region, remains extremely difficult, with Russian troops advancing in small infantry groups.
Urban combat is ongoing across the city as Ukrainian forces work to eliminate Russian units, said Artem Prybylnov, head of communications for the 155th Separate Mechanized Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, on Kyiv24.
According to Prybylnov, Ukrainian troops are striving to prevent Russian units from entrenching themselves in Pokrovsk and to stop them from reaching the Myrnohrad highway and cutting it.
Prybylnov stressed that Russian troops have not encircled Pokrovsk.
โThe Pokrovsk urban area is holding. All the warriors of the Seventh Air Assault Corps and the 155th Separate Mechanized Brigade are standing firm,โ he said.
Earlier, Ukrainian forces carried out an airstrike on the SelydoveโPokrovsk highway, depriving Russian troops of a route they had used to infiltrate Pokrovsk.
The Seventh Air Assault Corps said Russiaโs immediate objective is likely the encirclement of Myrnohrad and Pokrovsk.
The Washington Post reports that, in the battle for Pokrovsk, Ukraine may have to choose between holding territory and preserving its troops.
