A powerful blast rocked a section of a trunk gas pipeline in Russia’s Omsk region, igniting a large fire visible for kilometers and prompting temporary gas shutoffs to several industrial facilities, according to regional emergency services. Video of the blaze has been published on the Telegram channel of volunteer Serhiy Sternenko.
Russian officials said the situation is “under control” and reported no injuries so far, but details are still being clarified. Emergency crews rushed to the scene to contain the fire.
The explosion occurred near the settlement of Rostovka on an underground segment tied to a gas distribution station, Russian rescue services said. Four pieces of firefighting equipment and 18 personnel from the Emergency Ministry were deployed to battle the flames.
Several industrial enterprises in the region were temporarily cut off from gas. Boiler houses continued operating via reserve pipelines and alternative fuels. Specialists with Gazprom Transgaz Tomsk said restoring gas supply could take about a day.
The company added it is reconfiguring the gas supply system and has convened a special commission to investigate the cause.
Russia’s Defense Ministry reported intercepting and shooting down 31 drones overnight, without mentioning the Omsk region, noting only that none reached Siberia.
