Ukrainian ATACMS near Voronezh reportedly destroy Pogonovo training ground, a launch point for Russia’s invasion
Posts on social media claim that U.S.-made long-range ATACMS missiles in Ukrainian service hit one of the “launch positions” from which Russian forces began their attack on Ukraine.
According to these reports, one of the targets struck by ATACMS on November 18 was the Pogonovo training ground in Russia’s Voronezh region, where personnel had gathered—likely for formation—at the time, reports the OSINT Telegram channel Cyberboroshno. Notably, that range saw the first major troop buildup ahead of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022. .
The post said accounts of strikes on other targets vary, and that satellite imagery will provide precise confirmation.
“It’s also true that some missiles were shot down,” the channel’s author wrote.
The November 18 attack is being described as the first on Russian territory using American-made missiles since the start of Donald Trump’s presidential term.
Ukraine’s General Staff said on November 18 that ATACMS were used to strike targets inside Russia and vowed to continue using the system against enemy targets.
Earlier on November 18, there were also reports that Ukrainian Hrim-2 (Grom-2) missiles reached Voronezh for the first time since the war began.
