Under the cover of fog, Russian troops tried to push into central Pokrovsk - Ukraine says those assault groups are now being eliminated. Russian forces continue to press their offensive on the city.

Over the past several days, Russian soldiers used thick fog to attempt an advance into the central part of Pokrovsk in Donetsk region.

They did not succeed; Ukrainian troops are now eliminating these groups in urban areas, according to the Eastern Group of Forces.

Search-and-assault operations are ongoing in the city. Russia has massed its largest concentration of troops around the Pokrovskโ€“Myrnohrad agglomeration. Ukraineโ€™s Armed Forces are holding positions in the northern part of the city and south of the railway.

Russian forces are also attempting to bypass Pokrovsk. Small Russian infantry groups tried to reach the village of Grishine but were eliminated. Ukrainian defenders are cutting Russian logistics routes on the approaches to the city.

Analysts at DeepState say Russian troops are entrenching in central Pokrovsk, consolidating positions and moving into a full-scale battle for the city. The Washington Post reports that in the fight for Pokrovsk, Ukraine faces a choice between holding territory and preserving its forces.
