The United States may incorporate several points critical to Ukraine in the final version of a peace plan now being discussed by European, Ukrainian and American officials in Geneva.
The Ukrainian team has already provided brief readouts from the first meetings and conversations in Geneva. President Volodymyr Zelensky shared details on his Telegram channel.
Zelensky said Ukraine’s delegation is seeking workable solutions to end the war, restore peace and ensure lasting security. He noted there have been positive shifts on the US side.
“There is now an understanding that the American proposals may include a number of elements based on Ukraine’s vision and critical to the national interests of Ukraine. Further work continues to ensure all elements are truly effective in achieving the main goal our people expect — to finally put an end to the bloodshed and the war,” Zelensky wrote.
On Sunday, November 23, delegations from Ukraine, the United States and Europe began meeting in Switzerland to discuss the American peace plan to resolve the conflict in Ukraine. Ukraine’s delegation includes:
- Andriy Yermak — Head of the Office of the President and head of the delegation;
- Rustem Umerov — Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council;
- Kyrylo Budanov — Chief of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Defense Ministry;
- Andriy Hnatov — Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine;
- Oleh Ivashchenko — Head of the Foreign Intelligence Service;
- Serhiy Kyslytsia — First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs;
- Yevhen Ostrianskyi — First Deputy Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council;
- Oleksandr Poklad — Deputy Head of the Security Service of Ukraine;
- Oleksandr Bevz — Adviser to the Head of the President’s Office.
The US delegation includes Secretary of State Marco Rubio, special envoy Steve Witkoff and Army Secretary Dan Driscoll, who recently visited Kyiv. From the EU, senior advisers to the heads of the European Commission and the European Council are taking part.
According to Reuters sources, the final details of a 28-point peace plan will be agreed at an in-person meeting between Zelensky and Trump. A source told the outlet that there were positive and constructive talks between Ukrainian and US officials ahead of the Geneva meeting.
According to the Financial Times, the Trump administration has set strict timelines for the negotiation process and is pressing Zelensky to agree to the terms of a peace deal by Thanksgiving - November 27.
