On December 2, 2025, the Lublin branch of Poland’s National Public Prosecutor’s Office charged a 28-year-old Russian, Mihail M., with leading an organized criminal group conducting espionage and sabotage activities benefiting Russian intelligence. The group’s operations had terrorist elements, including coercion to perform sabotage targeting the derailment of a train. They conducted observation of military vehicles and vessels and installed transmission devices on critical Polish infrastructure such as airports, railway stations, and border terminals on the Polish-Ukrainian border section. These actions are classified as crimes under Polish law, with violations punishable by up to 30 years in prison. This case reflects ongoing Russian espionage and sabotage attempts targeting Polish critical infrastructure near the eastern border.
