Ukrainian drones strike oil depot in Russia’s Tambov region, sparking large fire

Overnight into December 3, drones struck a large oil depot in Russia’s Tambov region, sparking a fire, according to Russian Telegram channels.

The channels said UAVs hit the Nikiforovskaya oil depot in the village of Dmitrievka shortly after midnight. Video posted online suggests the attack on the strategic site was successful.

Tambov Governor Yevgeny Pervyshov confirmed on Telegram that drones targeted strategic facilities in the region overnight. He said a fire broke out at the oil depot “after UAV debris fell.” Emergency services were working to extinguish the blaze. Russia’s Defense Ministry, meanwhile, claimed its air defenses shot down 102 Ukrainian drones across Russia overnight. None were reported shot down over the Tambov region.

Dmitrievka oil depot is considered a strategic facility. It has 14 tanks with a total capacity of 10,440 cubic meters. The depot supplies fuel to Russian forces operating in Ukraine.

In recent days, Ukraine’s military has carried out strikes on oil depots in several Russian regions. For example, overnight into December 2, Ukrainian drones targeted an oil depot in the city of Livny in Russia’s Oryol region. Local Governor Andrei Klychkov acknowledged the strike and confirmed a fire broke out at the energy facility.

Ukrainian forces have also struck Russian oil depots in occupied Ukrainian territory. In Feodosia, for example, such a facility burned for several days after a drone attack.
