Ukraine says it struck major Russian chemical plant, sparking fire

Ukraine’s General Staff said its forces hit the Nevinnomyssk Azot chemical plant in Russia’s Stavropol Krai overnight on December 4, damaging a production workshop and igniting a fire.

The plant is one of Russia’s largest chemical facilities and a critical part of the country’s defense industry, the General Staff said, with annual capacity of more than 1 million tons of ammonia and up to 1.4 million tons of ammonium nitrate—key components used to make explosives and ammunition.

Ukraine’s military also said it confirmed a separate December 4 strike on a concentration of Russian personnel at a training ground near Dokuchaievsk, in Russian-occupied Donetsk region, reporting 60 soldiers killed and wounded.

“The Defense Forces continue to take all measures to undermine the military-economic potential of the Russian occupiers and force the Russian Federation to cease its armed aggression against Ukraine,” the statement said.

The General Staff previously reported a December 2 strike on an oil depot in Livny, Oryol region, where two RV-5000 tanks caught fire after drone hits, and an overnight November 28 strike on the Saratov oil refinery.
