Overnight into Saturday, December 6, Russia carried out a large-scale attack on Ukraine using missiles and drones.
Air raid alerts were declared across almost the entire country, including in Zakarpattia.
Most regions came under drone attack.
In total overnight, Russia launched 653 drones and 51 missiles at Ukraine.
Ukraine’s air defense said it shot down or intercepted 585 drones and 30 missiles, including 29 Iskander-K, Kalibr and Kh-101 cruise missiles, as well as one Iskander-M ballistic missile.
Cruise missiles fired by Tu-95MS and Tu-160 strategic bombers entered Ukraine via Sumy region toward the Pryluky district of Chernihiv region, then moved toward Pyriatyn in Poltava region, continuing to Kaniv in Cherkasy region and on to Vinnytsia region.
Ukraine’s Air Force also reported groups of Kalibr missiles over Mykolaiv and Odesa regions.
In Kyiv region, a group of missiles moved past Fastiv toward the Makariv area.
Separately, Kh-101 cruise missiles moved from Khmelnytskyi region toward Ternopil, Lviv and Ivano-Frankivsk regions.
In Lutsk, bursts of air-defense fire targeting drones were heard; later, Mayor Ihor Polishchuk said food warehouses in the city were burning.
In Dnipropetrovsk region, the massive strike sparked several fires and injured an 11-year-old boy.
Infrastructure was damaged in the Kryvyi Rih district, and a garage and an outbuilding caught fire in Pavlohrad, said regional head Vladyslav Haivanenko.
In Kyiv region, Russian forces hit a key rail junction in Fastiv.
The local station was completely destroyed.
Suburban train service was disrupted, and rail operator Ukrzaliznytsia introduced schedule changes.
A 42-year-old man suffered a laceration to his left shin.
In the Vyshhorod district, a 46-year-old woman was hospitalized with shrapnel wounds to her arm, chest and back, along with a closed cervical spine injury, said Mykola Kalashnyk, head of the Kyiv regional military administration.
Another woman, 40, sustained a laceration to her cheek.
Ukraine’s Energy Ministry: Facilities damaged in eight regions
The Energy Ministry said the massive strike targeted electricity generation, distribution and transmission sites.
Facilities were damaged in Kyiv, Chernihiv, Lviv, Odesa, Zaporizhzhia, Dnipropetrovsk, Mykolaiv and Kharkiv regions.
Parts of six regions lost power as a result.
Hourly rolling outages have been introduced across Ukraine.
