Ukrainian Special Operations Forces strike Russian ships transporting Iranian weapons in the Caspian Sea

Ukraine’s Special Operations Forces (SSO) say they struck the vessels “Kompozitor Rakhmaninov” and “Askar-Sarydzha” in the Caspian Sea, after receiving detailed route and cargo information from members of the insurgent movement “Black Spark.”

“A Special Operations Forces unit, working with the ‘Black Spark’ insurgent movement, carried out a special operation that hit two Russian vessels near the shores of the Republic of Kalmykia in the Caspian Sea. The ships were transporting weapons and military equipment,” the SSO said.

The insurgents provided Ukraine’s forces with detailed data on the route and cargo of the vessels “Kompozitor Rakhmaninov” and “Askar-Sarydzha.” The military said Russia uses them for military purposes, including moving military cargo between Iran and Russia. The ships are under U.S. sanctions.

“The Special Operations Forces continue to take asymmetric actions to degrade the offensive capabilities of the Russian army,” the SOF added.

The “Black Spark” movement’s press service also confirmed the operation in the Caspian Sea.

“A unique result - two Russian vessels that the regime uses to deliver military cargo were damaged in the Caspian Sea. Near the coast of the Republic of Kalmykia, the ships ‘Askar-Sarydzha’ and ‘Kompozitor Rakhmaninov,’ carrying weapons and equipment, were attacked,” it said.

The insurgents described the consequences of the strike as “very serious.”

On December 11, media reported that the SBU’s “Alpha” special operations center struck the Filanovsky oil platform in the Caspian Sea, owned by the Russian company Lukoil-Nizhnevolzhskneft. The drone attack halted oil and gas production from more than 20 wells.

Earlier, on December 1, reports said the “Dagdiesel” shipbuilding plant in Kaspiysk was hit. To reach the target, the drones traveled 600 kilometers over Russian territory and flew over urban areas.
