Ukraine launched dozens of drones overnight into Sunday, December 14, targeting the Russia-annexed Crimean peninsula and several regions across Russia.
Russia’s Defense Ministry said that from 23:00 on December 13 to 7:00 a.m. Moscow time on December 14, Russian air defenses intercepted and destroyed 141 Ukrainian UAVs.
The ministry said the largest number - 35 drones - were downed over Bryansk region, with another 32 destroyed over Crimea.
Drone attacks on Russian regions
According to the ministry, 22 drones were shot down over Krasnodar region, 15 over Tula, 13 over Kaluga, and 7 over Kursk. Four drones were destroyed over both Ryazan and Rostov regions, three over Belgorod, and two over Leningrad. Air defenses disabled one UAV each over Smolensk, Pskov, Novgorod and Moscow regions.
Bryansk Governor Alexander Bogomaz said in a morning Telegram post there were “no casualties or disruptions” from the attack on his region. “Emergency and rapid response services are working at the scene,” he added.
The governors of Tula and Smolensk regions—Dmitry Milyaev and Vasily Anokhin—also said on Telegram on the morning of December 14 that there were no casualties from drone strikes.
Kaluga Governor Vladislav Shapsha said 14 UAVs were destroyed over the Baryatinsky, Kozelsky, Kirovsky, Maloyaroslavetsky, Meshchovsky and Mosalsky municipal districts, as well as on the outskirts of Obninsk and Kaluga. “Preliminarily, there are no casualties or infrastructure damage,” his post said.
Rostov region Governor Yury Slyusar said the drone attack was repelled overnight in Kamensk, Kamensky, Ust-Donetsky and Milyutinsky districts. “No one was injured. Information about ground impacts is being clarified,” he noted.
Leningrad region Governor Alexander Drozdenko said on Telegram only that “UAVs were destroyed over the Leningrad region by air defenses.”
By the time of publication, the Russia-appointed “head” of Crimea Sergey Aksyonov, Krasnodar Governor Veniamin Kondratyev, Kursk Governor Alexander Khinshtein, Ryazan Governor Pavel Malkov, Belgorod chief Vyacheslav Gladkov, Pskov chief Mikhail Vedernikov, Novgorod Governor Alexander Dronov and Moscow region Governor Andrei Vorobyov had not commented on the drone attacks on Telegram.
Meanwhile, the Volgograd regional administration said on Telegram overnight on December 14 that falling drone debris sparked “a fire hotspot at an oil depot” in Uryupinsk. There were no casualties, but residents of homes near the depot were evacuated, the post said.
Russia’s Defense Ministry said the drones were launched from Ukrainian territory. Between 11:00 p.m. on December 13 and 7:00 a.m. Moscow time on December 14, Russian air defenses allegedly intercepted and destroyed 141 Ukrainian UAVs.
Ukraine’s General Staff said on Facebook it struck the Afipsky oil refinery in Krasnodar region. “Explosions and a large fire were recorded in the target area. The extent of damage is being clarified,” the post said. The General Staff also said an oil depot in Uryupinsk in Volgograd region was hit: “Explosions and a fire were recorded at the site.”
The “Operational Headquarters – Krasnodar Region” Telegram channel said drone debris in the settlement of Afipsky in Seversky district caused a fire in a private garden and damaged several homes at other addresses.
Local outlets said windows were blown out in four private homes, and drone fragments were found at three locations.
The Telegram channel Astra published video it said shows Ukrainian drones striking the Uryupinsk oil depot. The same facility was previously attacked overnight on December 3, the channel noted. Based on its own OSINT analysis, Astra added that Lukoil-Yugnefteprodukt’s Enem oil depot in Adygea was also targeted overnight on December 14.
