Overnight on December 15, strike drones targeted the Russian city of Belgorod, and a subsequent missile attack left parts of the city without electricity.
Drones hit the Luch gas-turbine thermal power plant, according to the Telegram channel Exilenova+.
“After a missile alert was issued in Belgorod, thick smoke was seen rising in the area of the power plant. Likely HIMARS was used,” the post said.
Videos from the attacked city also surfaced online. Explosions and smoke were indeed observed in the vicinity of the Luch power plant.
Belgorod region governor Vyacheslav Gladkov confirmed that missiles struck Belgorod.
“The enemy carried out a missile strike on Belgorod. Preliminary reports indicate no injuries. As a result of the shelling, there is serious damage to engineering infrastructure. Emergency and rapid-response services are working to eliminate the consequences,” Gladkov wrote.
He also noted that windows were damaged in apartments across six multi-story buildings and in one private home.
Photos from residential neighborhoods of Belgorod that lost power after the missile attack are also appearing online.
Earlier, on the night of December 14, drones struck several regions of Russia and Crimea.
On the evening of December 12 and after midnight, Russia’s Saratov region was attacked by drones.
