Ukrainian drones strike Russian oil refinery in Slavyansk-on-Kuban

Ukraine, in the early hours of Wednesday, December 17, hit Russia’s energy infrastructure again.

In Russia’s Krasnodar region, a refinery in Slavyansk-on-Kuban came under a drone attack.

A “fire broke out at process equipment and a pipeline over an area of 100 square meters and was quickly extinguished,” the Krasnodar region’s Operational Headquarters said.

Officials said two people were injured and hospitalized. They added that drones damaged two power transmission lines in the Slavyansky district.

About 12,700 households were left without power. Operations were suspended at 21 kindergartens and three schools due to water, power and heat outages.

Ukrainian outlet Exilenova+ posted videos showing the fire at the refinery in Slavyansk-on-Kuban.

Ukraine’s General Staff confirmed the strike on the Slavyansk refinery, saying the facility supplies fuel to the Russian military.

Overall, Ukraine launched 94 drones at Russia overnight into December 17, the Russian Defense Ministry said.

Most were downed over Krasnodar region and Rostov region — 31 and 22, respectively.

Residents of Saratov reported explosions overnight. The extent of the damage remains unclear. Ten drones were shot down over Voronezh region, Governor Alexander Gusev said.

Debris ignited a power line at an infrastructure site, he added, without giving further details.
