Ukraine and Portugal have agreed to launch joint production of Ukrainian sea drones, presidential adviser Oleksandr Kamyshin said.
Kamyshin described the systems as advanced combat technologies that have already proven their effectiveness in battle. He said Ukraine’s sea drones have shown results against Russia’s fleet, including surface vessels and even submarines.
President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed the agreement, saying he signed the relevant documents with Portugal’s Prime Minister Luís Montenegro. Zelensky separately thanked Lisbon for participating in the PURL program, through which Ukraine receives weaponry from the United States.
Amid the Portugal deal, the United States is also showing interest in Ukraine’s sea drones. Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense said representatives of the U.S. Navy and the Pentagon have visited the country twice to review the systems firsthand, examining technical specifications across projects and conducting initial official tests. 1 The ministry said it presented solutions that have proven effective in real combat.
