Ukraine says it destroyed a Russian patrol ship and struck a Lukoil drilling platform in the Caspian Sea

Ukraine’s Defense Forces struck a Russian warship, the Project 22460 patrol vessel “Okhotnik,” and a drilling platform at the Filanovsky oil and gas field in the Caspian Sea. A radar landing system, the RSP-6M2, in Crimea was also hit.

The strike on the “Okhotnik” and the drilling platform was confirmed on the morning of December 20 by the press service of Ukraine’s General Staff. The operation took place overnight into December 19.

Several Ukrainian strike drones hit the Russian warship “Okhotnik.” The vessel’s hull number and the extent of damage were still being clarified at the time of publication.

The ship had been patrolling near the Filanovsky field’s drilling platform, owned by Russia’s Lukoil, which was also struck by Ukraine’s Defense Forces, the General Staff said. Officials noted that Russia uses the platform to extract oil and gas to supply its military. The scale of damage and whether the platform can continue operating remain unclear.

In addition to the targets in the Caspian Sea, Ukraine’s forces hit an RSP-6M2 radar landing system near Krasnoselske in Russian-occupied Crimea. The system helps guide enemy aircraft to land with greater precision in poor visibility, according to the General Staff.

Ukraine’s Special Operations Forces published a photo of the strike on a Russian warship on the evening of December 19 but did not disclose details. OSINT analysts from the “Kiberboroshno” project suggested the target was a Project 22460 “Okhotnik” patrol ship, specifically the border guard ship “Rasul Gamzatov.”

On December 19, volunteer Serhii Sternenko said Security Service of Ukraine drones struck a third Russian platform in the Caspian Sea, at the Graifer field; earlier strikes hit platforms at the Filanovsky field (December 11–12) and the Korchagin field (December 15).
