Place of Death: Parking lot of Garage Cooperative No. 66, near building 12, block 5, Yasenevaya Street (Ulitsa Yasenevaya), Orekhovo-Borisovo Yuzhnoye District, Southern Administrative Okrug, Moscow, Russia

ℹ️
Yasenevaya Street, where the explosion occurred, is just 150 meters from housing blocks known to be inhabited by GRU (military intelligence) employees. This suggests Sarvarov lived in a "siloviki" cluster, implying the assassins had infiltrated a zone theoretically under heightened surveillance.

Mechanism of Death: General Sarvarov was departing for the General Staff headquarters in his personal vehicle, a white Kia Sorento SUV. A magnetic Improvised Explosive Device (IED) containing approximately 300 grams of TNT equivalent had been placed under the car below the driver's seat. The explosion occurred after the vehicle had moved "several meters". This suggests a sophisticated triggering mechanism, either:

  • A motion-activated fuze (mercury switch or accelerometer).
  • A wheel-rotation counter.
  • A remote detonator operated by a nearby spotter who waited to confirm the driver's identity on the roadway.

The blast breached the unarmored floor of the Kia Sorento, directing the thermal and blast wave upward into the driver. Sarvarov sustained "multiple shrapnel injuries, closed fractures, leg injuries, and a fractured facial bone". Despite the devastation, he was reportedly pulled from the wreckage alive by first responders but succumbed to traumatic shock and blood loss shortly after arrival at the hospital.
