Work on a peace plan to resolve the conflict between Russia and Ukraine is ongoing, and 20 points have been finalized so far, developed with the participation of the United States and Ukraine. President Volodymyr Zelensky announced this at a meeting with Foreign Ministry staff on the occasion of Diplomatic Service Day.
"At night our negotiating team returns from the United States; in the morning I will get a report on the results of the meeting in Miami. Everything possible that could be done for the first drafts is already there. There are 20 points of the plan - probably not everything is perfect there, but the plan exists. There are security guarantees between us, the Europeans and the United States of America, a framework document," Zelensky said.
He noted that these are still preliminary materials, but stressed the importance of the document being drawn up jointly with Washington.
"It is encouraging that it’s not only from our side. Why? Because when it’s only our work, you know, we want a lot, and then it’s not a fact that all of it will happen. And here it’s important that this is both our work and that of the United States of America. This suggests that we are very close to a real result," the Ukrainian president explained.
The Kremlin has not yet commented on the new version of the US peace plan. A day earlier, Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov said the proposals put forward by Ukraine and European countries "add nothing good."
Another round of peace talks took place in the United States on December 20–21 and began with a meeting between the Ukrainian and American delegations. During the same period, Donald Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff and the US leader’s son-in-law Jared Kushner held a meeting in Miami with the representative of the Russian president, Kirill Dmitriev.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Dmitriev would brief Vladimir Putin on the outcome after his return. "[Dmitriev] should arrive in Moscow; he still has to get there, the journey is not short. When he arrives, he will report to the president [on the results of the talks]," Peskov said.
