Italy has delivered more than €3 billion worth of weapons, military equipment and other resources to Ukraine since Russia’s full-scale invasion, Gen. Luciano Portolano, chief of the Italian Defense Staff, said in an interview with Il Sole 24 Ore.
The aid has been provided under 11 interministerial government decrees authorizing the transfer of military materiel, equipment and supplies to Kyiv. Italy is now discussing a 12th decree that would extend military support to Ukraine.
Portolano also emphasized that decisions on backing Ukraine after the war will rest with the country’s political leadership, while the military is prepared.
Separately, the Italian government has published a decree authorizing a new, twelfth package of military assistance for Ukraine. The document, dated November 14 and published in the official gazette, was coordinated by the Defense Ministry and the Foreign Ministry.
Earlier, Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini said additional aid to Ukraine could fuel corruption in Kyiv and, in his view, would not help end the full-scale war.
