Ukraine’s National Guard details new Russian infiltration tactics near Pokrovsk

In the Pokrovsk sector, fighting isn’t along a fixed front line but within a wide engagement zone where Russian assault groups are making contact with infantry from Ukraine’s Armed Forces.

This zone of fire is a belt 5 to 20 kilometers deep on both sides, said Maj. Volodymyr Nazarenko, deputy commander of the 4th “Force of Freedom” Battalion of the 4th “Rubizh” Brigade of Ukraine’s National Guard (NGU), according to UNIAN.

Along this belt, the movement of Russian assault groups is hampered by the active use of reconnaissance and strike drones, as well as artillery and mortars.

“Dozens of enemy assault groups are making contact with our infantry. It’s the infantry who are holding the front on their shoulders and, in most cases, emerging victorious from these battles, preventing the enemy from advancing,” Nazarenko said.

At the same time, Ihor Yaremenko, chief of staff of an artillery reconnaissance battalion in the NGU’s artillery brigade, emphasized that the Russians are using a new tactic in Pokrovsk - slipping through one by one. In doing so, the occupiers hope to remain unnoticed or that no one will respond.

However, according to Yaremenko, Ukraine’s defense forces are detecting such attempts and destroying Russian units trying to infiltrate Pokrovsk, to ease the burden on troops holding the line inside the city.

Yaremenko added that Ukrainian units are also working to expand and maintain logistics routes toward Pokrovsk and Myrnohrad to ensure the infantry has everything needed for the defense.

On December 29, Oleksandr Syrskyi explained what is actually happening in Pokrovsk.
