On January 5, 2026, systematic pro-Kremlin information warfare against Estonia has been detected on Wikipedia, where historical facts and political articles related to Estonia are being altered to reflect Russian narratives. The campaign targets nearly 600 articles about prominent Estonians, including politicians and cultural figures such as Kaja Kallas, Ott Tänak, and Carmen Kass, as well as foundational aspects of Estonian statehood, parliamentary and election information, and crucial historical events such as the Estonian War of Independence. Users opposing these Russian-influenced edits are quickly blocked and their corrections removed under pretexts accusing them of Estonian-side manipulation. Wikipedia administrators have locked at least the article on Kaja Kallas, leaving the Russian narrative unchallenged. The Estonian War of Independence is being reframed as a ‘Russian-averse offensive,’ distorting its true historical context. This ongoing disinformation effort is under official scrutiny by Estonian government bodies aiming to assess and counter the Wikipedia-based hostile influence operation.
